Supabase.

Supabase builds the Postgres development platform: database, authentication, data APIs, Edge Functions, Realtime, Storage, and Vector in one open-source stack. The company's line is simple: build in a weekend, scale to millions. That is the right promise for a generation of builders who want production infrastructure without spending the first month stitching together the basics.
At the center is Postgres. Each Supabase project starts as an isolated Postgres database, then gets the surrounding primitives developers expect: auth, row-level security, realtime streams, auto-generated APIs, file storage, serverless functions, and a web interface. The product feels like a backend a small team can start with and a larger team can keep.
What they're building
The product is not just hosted Postgres. Supabase is turning the database into an application platform. A developer can start with tables and policies, wire in auth, expose APIs, store files, run functions, subscribe to changes, and add vector search without leaving the same operating surface.
That matters more as AI pushes more people to ship software. Agents and builders can generate interfaces quickly, but the backend still has to be trustworthy: data model, permissions, logs, migrations, and production controls. Supabase gives that work a real substrate instead of a throwaway prototype stack.
Why we backed the founders and team
Paul, Ant, and the Supabase team built with the right wedge: make Postgres feel immediate without hiding the database. They also chose open source early, which turns trust into distribution. Developers can inspect it, self-host it, contribute to it, and still choose the managed product when they want speed.
We like infrastructure that starts as a developer favorite and hardens into company-critical software. Supabase has that shape. It is simple enough for the first weekend and serious enough for the million-user version. That combination is rare, and it is why we backed the founders and team.
